Back in January 2003, I wrote about the wonderful Browning High Wall single shot rifle, and talked a little about how John Moses Browning’s excellent design had been re-released in 1973 as the Browning 1885.

Well, now, looky here:

Oh, man… a 26” octagonal barrel, excellent pattern in the stock, in the very manly .45-70 Govt caliber—and for less than $900 at Collectors in Houston.

I want a rifle in .45-70 Govt., damnit, and I won’t sleep until I get one (figuratively speaking, of course). I was looking at a Marlin lever rifle, but after seeing this beauty…

If my wallet wasn’t broken (broken? shattered would be a better description) after the first two legs of the Du Toit World Tour - 2004, this would e’en now be en route to Richard The Gunsmith, on my behalf.

I am not, however, begging for money in the BANG fund. There is right now a more worthy place for you guys to be sending your money, and it’s called Spirit of America.

If you haven’t yet made a donation, go there and do it now. Our Marines in the Sandbox are counting on you.
