Here’s a gun which is guaranteed to put hair on your chest, and take skin off your knuckles: the Century Model 100, in the very manly .45-70 Govt caliber (yeah, that’s why the cylinder seems so long):
For anyone interested in actually buying one of these puppies, here’s the GunsAmerica link, and the price is just under $2,000.
Now, I have to tell you, shooting a .45-70 Govt. cartridge out of a handgun is not a sport for the faint-hearted—I wouldn’t mind trying it (once), just so I could say that I did it.
But, for those interested, here’s a side-by-side of a .45-70 Govt next to a .45 Colt (the normal caliber for a cowboy six-shooter):
Yeah, the Colt shoots a 250gr lead bullet, the Govt. shoots a 300gr bullet. Note the difference in cartridge case size.
Like I said, I’m morbidly curious enough to want to try this puppy out—I have fairly strong wrists—but I bet a single cylinder-full would be all I could handle.
Century Manufacturing is based in Indiana, and apparently, only 1,200 of the Model 100 pistols were ever made. It’s a niche product, for fairly obvious reasons.
